People have known about epilepsy for thousands of years but have not understood it until
recently. The ancient Babylonians wrote about the symptoms and causes of epilepsy 3000 years ago. They thought that seizures
were caused by demons attacking the person. Different spirits were thought to cause the different kinds of seizures.
In reality this is as far from the truth as can be.
In todays society 1 in 200 people can have a seizure in their life time and many come to
continue having seizures all their life.
Epilepsy is known as "the hidden disability" but it is infact a 'condition' caused by or
from a disability; ie. head injury, tuberculosis, mental handicaps or for no reason at all. Many people still have epilepsy
for reasons yet unknown by the medical profession.
